“Beach Bound, Milford CT”, acrylic painting, 12 x 24″ on gallery wrapped canvas, 2017

Throwback Thursday Blog Post

Here’s a little recap from a blog post I wrote back in January 2017.

Last night I received a voice message that completely surprised me! It was from one of the organizers of the Firehouse Art Gallery in Milford, CT. She notified me that my piece “Beach Bound” received second prize in the current show “Favorite Things or Favorite Places” ! What wonderful news! Dean and I dropped off to pieces to the show yesterday around noon and the judging must have taken place shortly after the 4:oopm deadline.

Beach Bound was inspired by a photo I took a few years ago when my kids and I were visiting my parents at their summer rental. Each time we’d visit, I’d glance down the side streets to see if I could get a glimpse of the water. The closer we’d get the greater our senses heightened – the air smelled salter, the colors seemed brighter and the excitement rose knowing that in a few minutes we would have our toes in the sand – Beach bound we were!

The Show  Details:
Location: Firehouse Art Gallery, 81 Naugatuck Ave, Milford, CT
Dates; January 19 – February 17, 2017
Reception: Thursday January 19, 2017 6-8pm

Artist’s Notes:

The street is Westland Ave off of Welches Point Rd in Milford CT, near the Bayview Beach area. On either side of the street, quaint beach houses with colorful facades stand proudly, basking in the warm sunlight. The azure blue sky stretches overhead, while a gentle breeze whispers through the trees, carrying the faint scent of salt from the nearby ocean. A few cars line the street, their presence hinting at the bustling activity of summer days. But it’s the focal point of the painting that truly captivates the viewer – at the end of the street, beyond the row of houses, the sparkling waters of the ocean beckon. A lone sailboat glides gracefully across the horizon, a symbol of the adventures that await just beyond the shore.

In “Beach Bound,” I sought to capture not just a scene, but a feeling – the eager anticipation of reaching the beach, of feeling the sand between your toes and the sun on your skin. With every brushstroke, I wish to convey the sense of excitement and wonder, through the eyes of a child, eagerly awaiting the promise of a day spent by the sea. It is my hope that this painting transports you to a place of joy and nostalgia, evoking fond memories of summer days and seaside adventures.

Below is the photo reference I used for my Beach Bound Painting.
