For my local artist friends and colleagues, here’s an exciting opportunity you won’t want to miss: a gathering of various art supply vendors all under one roof at the Lyme Art Association in Lyme, CT.
Aren’t we always in search of discovering new products, techniques and kind of geek out on materials. Here’s the perfect chance to talk directly to the manufacturers, ask questions and purchase materials.
Best Connecticut Framers
I’m thrilled to share that one of my go-to vendors, Wholesale Frame Company, will be in attendance. I’ve been relying on their top-notch frames and exceptional service since 2010. George and his sons always go above and beyond, from helping select the perfect frames to expertly packaging artwork for shipping.
While Wholesale Frame Company’s main location is in Meriden, I’m confident they’ll have a fantastic selection available at the expo.
Excellent Art Supply Store
Jerry’s in West Hartford CT has always been my go to art supply store in CT. When I was attending Hartford Art School I can remember the days when they’d roll out the red carpet—quite literally—with a limousine to shuttle the art students to the store at the start of the semester.. It seemed a little crazy to me at first but then I thought about and realized this is such a great idea and I think it made the students feel appreciated for the large amount of money they would need to spend when buying their supplies for the semester.
A favorite of Mine for Acrylic Paints
I do have two favorite brands of acrylic paints that I use all the time. One is M. Graham and the other is Golden Artist Colors. Golden paints are excellent professional grade paints. I can remember going to a Golden Artist Color back in 2013 at Creative Art Workshop in New Haven. I was blown away by all the different products Golden had to offer. From acrylic, watercolor, oil and pastel paints to an amazing array of mediums, gels and additives. I’ve been delving into the Golden Open line of acrylic paints lately, which are particularly suited for plein air painting. They incorporate a slow-drying medium that extends the working time, making them akin to oils in their ability to stay wet for days. I’m eager to further explore these paints this season and see where they take my artistic journey.
Quality Brushes from Royal Talens
I do have a thing for brushes. I have a hard time throwing them away always finding reasons to keep the beat up and worn out brushes. Acrylics can be very hard on brushes but I have found that the Royal Talens brushes hold up very well. I’m looking forward to buying a handful of brushes, dreaming about all the possibilities.
With so much to explore and discover, I can’t wait to immerse myself in the offerings of the other vendors as well. Lyme Art Association on Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 10am to 3pm.
It’s a perfect opportunity to mingle, shop, and soak up the creative vibes.
Location: Lyme Art Association, 90 Lyme St, Old Lyme CT, 10am-3pm Saturday April 20, 2024
