Original Painting of the Rose Garden at Elizabeth Park in Hartford, CT 10 x 20″, acrylics

As I stood amidst the vibrant blooms of Elizabeth Park’s renowned rose garden on a balmy June day, the air was filled with the intoxicating scent of blossoms in full bloom. With me was my eager student, Stephen, keen to learn the art of painting en plein air, a practice that captures the essence of a scene in the open air, translating nature’s beauty onto canvas.

The roses, at their peak season, danced in the gentle breeze, their colors a vivid symphony against the backdrop of lush greenery. Elizabeth Park’s rose garden, nestled in the heart of Hartford, CT, boasts a rich history dating back to its establishment in 1904. It stands as one of the oldest and most celebrated municipal rose gardens in the United States, a testament to the enduring beauty of nature and the timeless joy it brings to all who wander its paths. In this painting, I sought to capture not just the visual splendor of the roses, but also the tranquil atmosphere and the sense of serenity that permeates Elizabeth Park’s enchanting landscape.
