I’m thrilled to share the latest highlight from my live event painting journey—a captivating depiction of Danielle and Michael’s first dance at the Marble House in Newport, RI, live wedding painting.
My connection with Danielle and Michael began over a Zoom call, where we exchanged ideas and visions for their special day. For Danielle, getting married at the Marble House was a lifelong dream, one she cherished since childhood.
The Picture Perfect Wedding Day
The August wedding unfolded on a perfect summer day, with the back veranda offering a breathtaking ocean view. While guests enjoyed cocktail hour and dinner outdoors, I immersed myself in capturing the grandeur of the ballroom where the couple’s first dance was set to take place.
The Gold Room, with its opulent gilded decor and intricate architectural details, presented both an exquisite and challenging subject for my painting. Every corner boasted masterful craftsmanship—from the marble fireplace to the bronze statues adorning the mantel, to the intricately carved panels and majestic bronze chandeliers.
The addition of the uplighting by the lighting crew enhanced the room’s golden accents, casting a romantic ambiance befitting this Gilded Age mansion.
Nothing Short of a Grand Entrance
After the church service, the couple arrived by a horse-drawn carriage ushering them to the front door of the Mable House. The sunlight beaming through the trees directly onto the couple and the family, made the perfect opportunity for capturing dreamy-like, fairytale photos.
The history of the Marble House adds depth to its allure. Once owned by the Vanderbilt family, the mansion stands as a symbol of Newport’s illustrious past. Now an integral part of the Newport Mansion tours.
Upon stepping inside, guests are transported to an era of unparalleled luxury and refinement. The interior of Marble House is a breathtaking display of opulence, featuring soaring ceilings, intricate moldings, and exquisite furnishings sourced from around the world.
Every room is meticulously decorated, with no detail spared in creating an atmosphere of grandeur and elegance. Throughout its storied past, the mansion has played host to numerous influential figures, including political leaders, artists, and dignitaries from around the world. Its walls resonate with the echoes of a bygone era, offering visitors a glimpse into the lives of America’s elite during the Gilded Age.
Brush in Hand, Ready for the Challenge
With determination, I embarked on the painting, knowing I had the luxury of time to complete it in my studio. Over the course of 60 hours, I meticulously layered acrylics and oils, striving to capture not only the architectural brilliance but also the intimate moments shared by Danielle and Michael on the dance floor.
The finished piece fills me with such joy, especially the way the bride’s radiant smile and groom’s tender gestures speak volumes about their love and joy.
For a glimpse into the evening’s magic and my creative process, I invite you to watch the progress video captured by my husband, Dean. As I continued to work on the painting in my studio, I found solace in the memories of this remarkable event, accompanied by the soothing voices of my favorite audiobooks.
Painting at the Marble House was a truly remarkable experience—one I look forward to repeating as I return to Newport for this season’s weddings.
