Thomas and Kendra’s Live Wedding Painting at Saphire Estate, Sharon, MA 24 x 30″ oil painting

There are some wedding days that give me so many wonderful moments to work with that the challenge isn’t finding something to paint—it’s deciding which special details to include.

Thomas and Kendra’s wedding at Saphire Estate in Sharon, Massachusetts was one of those days.

Watch the video above to see their wedding painting come to life, from the early stages painted during the reception to the finished piece refined in my studio.

Capturing More Than One Moment

One of the things I love most about live wedding painting is having the opportunity to tell more of the story of a wedding day than a single photograph can capture.

For Thomas and Kendra’s painting, I wanted the focus to be on the two of them while also including the beautiful atmosphere of the ballroom and the family and friends who were such an important part of their celebration.

The romantic glow from the fire in the main ballroom created such a warm backdrop for the scene. Throughout the evening, the room was filled with music, lively dancing and so much energy. There was even a personal song performed by a dear friend—one of those heartfelt moments that makes a wedding uniquely your own.

And then there was a surprise no one could miss.

Mr. and Mrs. Met came to celebrate!

Thomas is a big Mets fan, so their appearance was such a fun and personal part of the evening. I love when couples incorporate details like this into their wedding because years from now, those are often the memories that immediately bring you right back to the day.

Bringing the Painting Back to My Studio

Although I begin each live wedding painting on location and paint throughout the celebration, my work doesn’t end when the reception does.

I bring the painting back to my studio where I spend many more hours thoughtfully refining the couple, family members, architecture, lighting and all of the little details that help tell the story.

My goal is not simply to create a painting of what the wedding looked like. I want to capture what it felt like to be there.

For Thomas and Kendra, that meant bringing together the warmth of the ballroom, the celebration happening around them, the people they love and those wonderful personal touches into one finished painting.

A Wedding Memory Made to Live in Your Home

One of my favorite moments in the entire process is seeing a finished wedding painting framed.

Once the celebration is over, the flowers are gone and the wedding day has become a beautiful memory, the painting becomes something completely different. It becomes part of the couple’s home and, I hope, eventually part of their family’s story.

That is what I love most about creating these paintings.

Thomas and Kendra’s wedding was filled with so many special moments, and it was truly a joy and an honor to preserve a piece of their day on canvas.
