A Surprise Gift of Art
Shelly and Jason’s wedding at the Farmington Polo Club in Farmington, CT, was filled with unforgettable moments, and I had the honor of preserving their first dance on canvas. What made this occasion even more special was the surprise element. Jason reached out to me before the wedding, planning to gift Shelly something she had always dreamed of—a live painter at their wedding. Shelly had often mentioned wanting a live painter, but she didn’t think it would be possible. Jason managed to keep the surprise until right before the ceremony, and the joy on her face was truly priceless when he revealed the plan.
A Dance to Remember
The reception hall at the Farmington Polo Club was the perfect backdrop for Shelly and Jason’s first dance. Their beautifully choreographed performance wowed their guests, with graceful twirls and spins across the dance floor. One of the most unforgettable moments was when Jason lifted Shelly into the air and twirled her around, drawing cheers and applause from everyone in the room. It was this moment that I chose to illustrate on canvas—the joy, love, and excitement radiating through their dance, surrounded by stunning florals, flickering candles, and elegant blue and white details that adorned the room.
A Shared Passion for Art
After their dance, Shelly and Jason came over to my easel, and we shared a lovely conversation about the live painting process. Throughout the evening, many of their guests returned to check on the painting’s progress, fascinated by the process of bringing their memories to life. It’s always a delight when guests have a strong connection to art or when they experience live painting for the first time. The conversations that spark around the painting often lead to heartfelt exchanges, and I love hearing the stories that art brings out in people.
Bringing the Details to Life
Back in my studio, I worked on adding layers of oil paint to the scene, paying special attention to the intricate details. One of my favorite parts was going through the videos and photos from the day and capturing elements like the custom nameplate over the outdoor fireplace, the beautifully arranged table settings with candles, and the blue and white cloth napkins. These small yet significant details are what make each painting so personal and unique.
Shelly and Jason chose the Hudson-style warm silver frame, which complemented their painting perfectly. Once the framing was complete, I had the pleasure of hand-delivering the painting—a special touch that I love offering to my Connecticut couples. It’s always rewarding to see their reactions in person and share in the final reveal.
