As a live wedding painter, each event I’m commissioned for brings a unique blend of excitement, anticipation, and creative inspiration. Recently, I had the pleasure of painting a scene from Joelle and Sean’s wedding reception at the enchanting New Haven Lawn Club. The venue, with its turn-of-the-century ambiance reminiscent of a Great Gatsby affair, provided the perfect backdrop for their celebration.
The New Haven Lawn Club is a place of timeless elegance, where every corner exudes charm and sophistication. From the intricate architectural details featuring shooting stars on the curved ceiling to the grandeur of the unique chandeliers casting a warm glow across the dark walnut wood floor, the venue is a painter’s paradise. Its large windows allow natural light to flood in, illuminating the space with a magical aura.
This wasn’t my first time painting at the Lawn Club, and with each visit, I find myself captivated by its allure. The impeccable service, delectable cuisine, and the overall atmosphere makes it a five-star experience every time.
Joelle and Sean’s vision for their painting was to capture the essence of their reception, focusing on candid moments and the vibrant energy of their guests. It was my task to bring their vision to life on canvas, weaving together a tapestry of memories that they could cherish forever.
With my husband’s assistance in gathering reference photos and videos, I embarked on the creative journey. Like a director orchestrating a scene, I positioned guests, wedding party members, and family members throughout the canvas, ensuring each brushstroke captured the essence of the moment.
One of the highlights of the evening was Joelle and Sean’s graceful entrance into the ballroom. As they glided across the dark wood floor, surrounded by a sea of smiling faces, the room was filled with an electric energy that was palpable.

People often ask me where I find my inspiration. The truth is, I’m a collector of art in all its forms. From books to digital folders overflowing with images, I’m constantly seeking inspiration from the works of other artists. For Joelle and Sean’s painting, I drew inspiration from the Great Illustrators of the golden age, particularly Tom Lovell, whose romantic and dynamic scenes evoked the perfect vintage Hollywood vibe.
Creating Joelle and Sean’s painting was both a labor of love and a thrilling challenge. Seeing the joy it brings them reinforces why I love what I do. As a wedding painter, I have the privilege of immortalizing moments of love and celebration, turning them into timeless works of art that will be treasured for generations to come.
